1898 – On the 13th June 1898, the history of Prince Edward School began in humble beginning by a body of farsighted and adventurous citizens, who at that time could not have seen that that little “acorn” would grow into the mighty “oak.” On that historic day in 1898, the forerunner of this famous old school was named ‘Salisbury Public Undenominational School’ by a committee which had been formed and who passed a resolution charging that local architects be invited to submit plans for the erection of a suitable school building to afford Accommodation for the 75 pupils and accommodation for a Master, and suitable offices.

Dr. Sora with Robert Moore James
My name is Robert Moore James born 7th February 1944. I went to Bindura Junior School from 1950 to 1956.I started high school in January 1957 at Prince Edward school as a border in Jameson House. I spent 6 years at PE and left in December 1962. After 58 years of absence from Prince Edward School, on November 9th 2020, I contacted the Headmaster, Dr Sora and asked him if it would be possible to get a letter from Him, (The School,) saying that I was a student there from 1957 to 1962 as I required proof for my Returning Residence Permit.
On the 10th November 2020, I received a phone call from Dr Sora saying my letter was ready and I could collect it from Mr John Muringani at my convenience. The next day I went to the office at PE where i was met by a very friendly and cheerful John who held a Manila file in one hand and a large brown envelope in the other.
After a little small talk and a few jokes John handed me the envelope in which was a letter going a full history of my time at Prince Edward, academic achievements, sports played, and conduct while I was at PE.
On enquiring where this information came from, he opened the file and showed me the contents which consisted of copies of every mid year and year end School Report a couple of other documents and last but not least a Testimonial from the headmaster of that time, Mr “Jack” Gaylord. It is seldom, if ever that I have been impressed to the degree that I was impressed at seeing my file, which was in immaculate condition after almost sixty years.
Not only was I impressed by the fact that my file was still in existence but by the fact that it had been located, and the letter that I had asked for was produced in 24 hours.
